For couples, the most useful choice is between a walkable town, a west-coast village and a smaller base by an eastern bay. Lefkada Town suits evenings out on foot. Agios Nikitas puts a village beach and west-coast scenery at the centre of your stay. Nidri is practical for boat trips, while Geni Bay offers a different setting across the water from town.
We run Chakalaka Resort in Geni, so this guide includes our own accommodation. It also explains when another part of Lefkada may suit you better. Start with the kind of evening you want, then check the room and transport details before booking.
Choose your base around the holiday you want
- Restaurants and evening walks: start with Lefkada Town, especially if you want several places to eat close to your accommodation.
- A village near the west-coast beaches: look at Agios Nikitas. Check parking and the route to your room, particularly with luggage.
- Boat excursions and a busy waterfront: consider Nidri. Ask where your chosen trip departs before deciding how close you need to stay.
- Bay views and time at your accommodation: consider Geni. A car helps if you want to combine pool days with trips around the island.
A sea-view room does not necessarily have direct beach access. Likewise, a property described as “near Nidri” may sit across the bay rather than within a short walk of its waterfront. Look at the actual route, not only the distance on a map.
Lefkada Town: restaurants and evenings on foot
Lefkada Town is a good starting point if dinner, cafés and an evening stroll matter as much as beach time. You can stay in an apartment or small hotel and choose a different restaurant without planning a drive each night.
The regional authority’s guide to Lefkada Town describes its historic streets, lagoon setting and marina. These make a town stay quite different from a hillside resort. Before booking, ask about street noise, parking and whether the bedroom faces a busy road.
Agios Ioannis is nearby, but its reputation for wind sports matters when planning a swim. Choose the beach around the day’s conditions rather than treating the closest stretch of coast as the right choice every afternoon.
Agios Nikitas: a west-coast village base
Agios Nikitas suits couples who want a village setting and easy access to its own beach. The centre is compact, with tavernas and accommodation close together. That is convenient for evenings, though a popular small village can feel busy in summer.
Milos Beach is another reason to stay here. Access involves a walking trail or a boat when services and sea conditions allow. It is not a flat beachfront stroll, so check the route if steps, heat or uneven ground are a concern.
Kathisma is a separate beach outing. Its bars and facilities may be exactly what you want for a day by the sea, but they do not make it a secluded beach. The Greek National Tourism Organisation’s beach guide is useful for comparing access and facilities before you set off.
Nidri and Geni Bay: two different east-coast stays
Nidri for a waterfront base
Nidri works well if boat excursions and places to eat are high on your list. Staying near the waterfront can reduce the organising involved in a departure day. Check the operator’s meeting point, and ask your accommodation about noise if an early night is important.
Geni for a smaller base across the bay
Geni is worth considering if you expect to spend part of your holiday on a balcony, by the pool or at a waterside taverna. At Chakalaka, the view is over Geni Bay towards Nidri. You are on the east side of Lefkada, not beside the west-coast beaches.
That distinction matters. Porto Katsiki or Kathisma can be a day out, but do not choose Geni expecting a quick walk to either. Check a current route and allow for winding roads, parking and summer traffic. Our location and directions page shows where the resort sits.
West-coast sunsets: plan an outing, not a promise
Porto Katsiki and Kathisma are well-known beaches, not secret spots. Go for the coastline and the sea views, and expect company in peak season. Neither a photograph nor the word “romantic” tells you how crowded a beach will be on your dates.
If you want to stay for sunset, plan the return journey before leaving. Parking, beach access, sea conditions and the drive after dark all deserve a check. A beach with steps may also be a poor match if either of you has limited mobility.
Our Lefkada beach guide offers more ideas for beach days. Keep the plan flexible enough to choose a sheltered option when the weather changes.
Staying at Chakalaka as a couple
Chakalaka is a family-run resort with 17 accommodation units. We welcome couples, families and groups; we are not an adults-only retreat. There is a bar, billiards and occasional karaoke, so tell us if you would prefer a room away from the social areas.
The large outdoor swimming pool is heated. There is also an infinity pool overlooking the bay, plus shared sauna and Jacuzzi facilities. Paddleboard and bicycle hire offer options for a day closer to the resort; ask the team about availability and suitable conditions.
For two people, start by comparing the studios and other accommodation. Room size, bed layout, outlook and outdoor space differ. A bay-facing balcony may matter more to you than extra floor space, or you may prefer a larger room for a longer stay. Breakfast is not included in the room price.
Direct bookings usually offer better prices. Send your dates and room preferences through our availability enquiry form. The team confirms availability and the rate by reply, so an enquiry is not an instant confirmed reservation.
Before you book
Agree on these points together and choosing a base becomes easier:
- Evenings: do you want to walk to several restaurants, or are you happy staying at the resort or arranging transport?
- Beach days: will you visit one local beach repeatedly or explore both coasts?
- Room: check the bed, balcony or terrace, steps and position relative to the bar.
- Transport: check current flights, transfers and any bus or boat services you intend to use.
- Dates and price: request a quote for the nights you will stay. An off-season price is not an indication of the rate in August.
Late spring and September are worth considering if you can travel outside the main summer peak. Avoid planning around guaranteed sunshine, an empty beach or year-round services. A few well-chosen days, with room to change plans, can be more enjoyable than trying to cover the whole island.
